This is a very powerful and dynamic image! The creativity in this image lies in the backlighting and stop action of the water which excuses the photographer from needing to see the rider's face and horse’s expression. An uncluttered background and nice color in the sky also add to this exceptional image.
This is a stunning image. The artistic use of backlight make this a standout. The choice of a wider angle lens than is normally seen in competition photos gives an "up close and personal" perspective -- I feel that I am really inside the photo because of the spray of water over my head.
Various technical qualities of this photograph make it work.
