2013 Winners Announced

April 20, 2013 - The 2013 Equine Ideal Online Photography Contest results are official.

Images to compete in an international equine photography online contest to illustrate the equine ideal in professional and amateur imagery. This contest is your chance to show your talent in capturing images that exemplify the equine ideal to the world!
  • Entry Fee- $15 per image, Paypal and check payment accepted for entries.
  • Entries must be submitted online as JPEG files

JUDGES FOR EQUINE IDEAL WINTER 2013 are to be announce. Brief comments will be emailed to entrants at the completion of the contest.

PEOPLES' CHOICE voting will be held April 1st to 15th (tentative). The top 10 photos in each of the 20 classes will be included in the Peoples' Choice voting. The top ten photos are determined by the judges. Members of the public are invited to cast their vote for their favorite amateur and professional photo. Prize and ribbon will be awarded to the Peoples' Choice in each division (Professional and Amateur).

For purposes of entering this contest, the professional division is defined as:
Entrants who have earned income from sales of photographic products and services in the past five years or advertise photographic services and products.
  • Wild Horses - This class is for any horse living in the wild anywhere in the world, or a horse that was born in the wild but now lives in a sanctuary or holding pen. Photos for this class should depict the spirit, nature and challenges of horses living in the wild in the modern age. 50% of the profits from this category will be donated to http://wildhorsepreservation.org.
  • Performance - Horse(s) in competition, training or work. Under saddle or in harness. Horse(s) must be in motion
  • Horses Human Bond - Illustrating the bond between horse and human. Must show a horse with a person, or parts of horses and humans interacting and showing a connection.
  • Horses Human Portrait - Portraits of horses and humans together. Must show a horse with a person in an environmental, contemporary or formal portrait.
  • Head Study - The horses head only, no people. May be one or multiple heads and show at least the whole face of the horse.
  • The Horse at Liberty - Showing the horse in its natural environment: pasture, in the wild, etc. May or may not be in motion, and may be one or multiple horses.
  • Extreme Action - Rodeo, racing, jumping, obstacles, or running free, must depict extreme action and the athleticism of the horse.
  • Black & White - Black and white photos of horse(s) Sepia also allowed. No color!
  • Artistic - Your artistic treatment, may include photoshop or darkroom manipulation or creative use of camera controls.
  • Details - Close up detail studies of the horse: eyes, body parts, horse related gear and equipment also qualifies
Professional Winners
Ribbons will be awarded through tenth place in each of the ten professional categories in addition to "Best of Show-Professional". Prizes will be awarded through third place. The Best of Show winner will receive an award and a one year complimentary membership to the professional photographers association the Equine Photographers Network (EPNet). All winners will be featured on www.equinephotocontest.com with photo credit as well as possible inclusion in EPNet promotional mailings such as the Photo of the Week and monthly newsletter.
